When we become extinct as a species, we will have earned every agonizing minute of it by our abject greed and stupidity.
Every time I turn around, someone has "invented" some new product that is disposable - yet another opportunity to create more waste, and more garbage. When will we learn that our footprint on this planet needs to be a lot lighter? We seem to be totally ignorant of the concept of cumulative effects.
Each time I finish a grocery run and look around me, I despair of the fact that, even here in the "enlightened and progressive" Berkshires, only a small percentage of shoppers seem to grasp the importance of reusable bags. We have created a continent-sized island of mostly plastic trash. Ocean living creatures are particularly adversely affected by the mistaken ingestion of plastic but but land animals and birds are not immune.
